Movement Knoxville’s mission is to strengthen local dance performance and education through cooperation among dance organizations in Knoxville, Tennessee.

We believe that cooperation is an indispensable asset for a thriving performing arts community; that the creation of this dance umbrella organization will connect us through its centralized database of classes, auditions, events, and venues; and that its outcome will be a more vibrant local dance community.  We believe that this organization will also allow movement disciplines beyond the immediate scope of dance to be realized as an important aspect of health, community, and culture.

Our History

In 2008 several local dance artists came together to take the pulse of dance in Knoxville.  What emerged from that meeting was wide agreement that local dance organizations could benefit from sharing resources and increasing public awareness of local dance opportunities and in so doing could help cultivate a stronger local dance audience.  An effort to found an organization to serve as a dance umbrella was launched.
